The Importance of a Mobile Friendly Website

So, with this post is a bit of a case study on a recent client of mine. I ran a promotional offer the second week of January for mobile website designs and it just so happens that a local Italian restaurant were keen to overhaul their website and took me up on our offer. Their old website was a traditional website, begging for a face-lift and here at 3SS we were happy to help.

It led me to look in to some facts and figures regarding mobile websites; and after launching the new website, we have seen a huge increase in phone calls via the website – why? well, it’s obvious, where they were based they had a local search volume of circa 500 a month for people looking for ‘Italian restaurant City‘, though they ranked well on Google and would get the ‘foot flow’ of traffic they were not able to convert those visitors into leads, they would result in a huge bounce rate and exit immediately – I’ve not spoken to these visitors, it’s impossible, but an educated guess would suggest that the reason they were leaving the website so fast was because the visitor wanted details immediately, they were hungry, happened to be in the local area and were looking to book a table right now at that Italian restaurant. I dread to think of the number of enquiries and table bookings they missed out on prior to the update, but taking a look in the analytics data that we have captured, now that they have a website optimised for both PC, Mobile and Tab computers they have seen a dramatic change in their bounce rates, no longer are we talking 85% bounce rates and as of this week their phone calls have more than doubled in bookings. This is a great easy win for the restaurant and I hope that other local businesses take note. As user patterns shift and become ever more dependant on mobile, not having a mobile friendly website will be hurting their bookings.
